Meeting Date: July 14, 2015
As manufacturing processes become more complex, using experience or intuition to make decisions on how best to modify workflow processes to improve throughput, reduce cycle time, reduce work-in-progress and so on, becomes much more risky. This presentation will begin by illustrating this point with such a workflow improvement decision. The first approach will be based on the intuition of the audience. The remainder of the presentation will show how Discrete Event Simulation (DES) can be used to model the specific workflow process involved and how it easily leads to the correct decision. Further, the use of DES makes it easier to explain to management why it is the right solution so that they have a high degree of confidence that the proposed improvement(s) will be successful. By attending this presentation, attendees not familiar with DES will get an excellent idea of how powerful this approach can be if used appropriately.
