In the May 2015 Quality Progress article titled “Seeing is Believing”, Gregg Young introduced a new tool called an Active-time Profile that provides insight into cycle-time reduction opportunities and clearly highlights the impact of process improvements. Donald Reinertsen’s book “The Principles of Product Development Flow: Second Generation Lean Product Development” describes a Process Flow Diagram that is simple to create and also highlights the impact of process improvements on queues, cycle-times and throughput. We will explore the value of these tools by a demonstration in which meeting attendees will participate in a process simulation, generating data before and after process improvements based on lean principles.
